January 3rd, and my country has invaded another and kidnapped its president. The flame of hope withers within me, and I think back to last time this happened.
This coincides with (ever-present) thoughts of rewatching Lord of the Rings. Today happens to be the Professor’s birthday, and I remember the hope the movies kindle, so now seems like the perfect day to partake.
Today has been a lazily busy but fun day consisting of coffee shops, a haircut, and now the library. Yesterday I woke up feeling unwell so I spent the entire day indoors, which furthered the growing melancholy I’ve been feeling. My mini adventures today are a response to that.
Hope at the End of the World:
Heart beats in 6/8 time
Thump thump thump
Thump thump thump
A page of my journal is a page of my heart
Like Plato’s Allegory
We break free of the confines
We didn’t even know were set upon us
Surely, surely a change is brewing
How similar we are in our hatred
But unalike in our familiarity
Hope surely is a tree
As Tolkien knew this to be
